You can drink alcohol when on Low FODMAP Diet.

You don’t have to miss out on any celebrations if you like alcohol and want to enjoy a glass of wine.

Yeah!

However, it is still a good idea to be careful. Because alcohol is a gut irritant and a common trigger for almost everyone with IBS, such as pain, bloating, urgency or diarrhoea, which is not ideal if you want to have a few drinks with friends and family.

Remember, every person is different, and alcohol may cause problems for some even though it is low FODMAP Friendly.

Low FODMAP Wine (149ml)

Four tips when drinking alcohol

I also use the four tips on my own and find them helpful. I hope you will find them useful too.

  • Drink lots of water; It is always a idea to hydrate while drinking alcohol, because it will help your body process the low FODMAP alcohol you’ve consumed. It will make it easier for you to figure out your personal tolerance for what you are drinking.
  • Drink while eating; Avoid drinking on an empty stomach, even if you are enjoying low FODMAP alcohol. Because it will help you to not only avoid becoming intoxicated quickly, but will help you to avoid further irritating your gut.
  • Drink in moderation; Everyone deserves a drink now and then, but just remember to be mindful of your serving sizes.
  • Drink slowly over a long period.
